Whispers Beyond Horizons

A Solo Exhibition by Pandurang Tathe

From 19th to 28th November 2025, Sridharani and Triveni Gallery, Mandi House, New Delhi, presents a remarkable solo exhibition titled “Whispers Beyond Horizons”, showcasing the powerful and contemplative works of renowned painter Pandurang Tathe.

“Whispers Beyond Horizons” offers art lovers in Delhi a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the vast, meditative world of Pandurang Tathe—a name deeply respected in contemporary Indian art. Known for his large abstract paintings, Tathe has carved an artistic identity that reaches far beyond conventional abstraction. While abstraction has long been a significant movement in Maharashtra, his work stands apart, reflecting an internal landscape shaped by memory, geography, and a profound connection to his surroundings.

Tathe, a senior painter and dedicated teacher from Pune, has been quietly shaping the art world for nearly five decades. His unassuming nature and grounded personality mirror the serenity found in his canvases. Colleagues and admirers often speak of his deep commitment to his craft, a dedication made even more admirable considering his long-standing teaching career. Despite a full academic workload, he has maintained an impressive and steady practice, resulting in an extensive and awe-inspiring body of work.

What makes his paintings truly distinct is the presence of landscape—not as a literal representation, but as an emotional and experiential source. Having spent his entire life in Pune, Tathe has developed a profound relationship with the plains, lakes, and rolling hills surrounding the region. These terrains, leading up to the majestic Western Ghats, have quietly shaped his visual language. Rather than depicting these places directly, he absorbs their essence, transforming them into large expanses of subtly layered colour, structured compositions, and evocative forms.

His canvases often feature bold yet subdued colour fields, applied with a spontaneity that feels both intuitive and deliberate. Over these planes, he introduces strong, independent dark lines that animate the surface, lending a calligraphic energy to his abstractions. These gestural strokes add movement and rhythm, guiding the viewer through a landscape that exists somewhere between the real and the imagined. In addition to his colourful works, Tathe has also produced powerful monochromatic paintings, using black and white to explore abstraction in a stark, contemplative manner.

Painting the soul of a land rich in social and political history is no small task, yet Tathe approaches it with quiet humility and unwavering dedication. His works do not simply depict places—they evoke an emotional terrain shaped by time, memory, and personal engagement with the environment.

While his paintings have appeared in several national exhibitions over the years, “Whispers Beyond Horizons” marks his first solo showcase in Delhi, making this exhibition particularly significant. The carefully curated selection promises to highlight the unique strengths of his practice, offering viewers a deep and enriching experience.

Art lovers, collectors, and connoisseurs can look forward to encountering works that resonate with silence, depth, and understated brilliance—true whispers that travel beyond horizons.
