Threads of Imagination

“Threads of Imagination – A Contemporary Group Art Exhibition – 2026” presents a vibrant visual landscape where traditional heritage and modern narrative forms converge. Moving beyond mere stylistic variety, the exhibition creates a thoughtful dialogue between traditional techniques and contemporary artistic expression.

A striking highlight of the show is the inclusion of the delicate Indian wash painting technique alongside bold folk-art styles. The subtle, layered tonalities of the wash method lend a dreamlike and meditative quality to representations of memory and nature, while the rhythmic and grounded energy of folk art roots the narrative in cultural identity.

Sacred motifs and mythology are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, transforming age-old allegories into reflections on present-day human conditions. Interspersed with these classical sensibilities are conceptual art practices, where medium takes a back seat to raw thought, encouraging viewers to look beyond aesthetic form and engage with deeper philosophical questions.

Alongside expressive landscapes, portraiture, intuition-driven abstractions, and tactile sculptures, these diverse approaches create a multi-layered artistic tapestry. Ultimately, the exhibition demonstrates how traditional mythology, folk idioms, classical techniques, and conceptual frameworks are not isolated fragments of history, but living and evolving threads woven into the fabric of contemporary Indian art.

The grand opening of the exhibition will be held on 22 September 2026 (Tuesday), at 5:00 PM onwards, at Jehangir Art Gallery, 161B, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai, Maharashtra – 400001.

The occasion will be graced by Anjali Rajkumar Vhatkar, C.E.O., Elaura Art Gallery, as the Chief Guest, while Shyambabu Naidu, Chairman, Artequest, will be the Guest of Honour. Zakir Sardar will join as the Special Guest, along with Naufil Arya – Poet.

The exhibition invites art enthusiasts, collectors, artists, curators, writers, and members of the cultural community to experience this diverse gathering of contemporary artistic expressions at one of Mumbai’s most recognised art destinations.
