The buoyant spirit of contemporary Indian art takes centre stage at the ‘Ithaka’ group contemporary art exhibition, held at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. Running from January 7 to 13, 2025, this artistic endeavour showcases the resilience and creative brilliance of seven promising artists from across India, offering viewers an inspiring journey through diverse perspectives and dreams. The opening ceremony was a star-studded affair, graced by luminaries such as Padma Shri Shyam Sharma, painter Thota Vaikuntham, Dr Sanjiv Kishore Gautam (director general, National Gallery of Modern Art), V Nagdas (chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi) and classical musician Padma Shri Rajeshwar Acharya. Their presence set a tone of reverence and excitement, making Ithaka a significant milestone in India’s cultural landscape.

Diverse Talents, Shared Vision

Ithaka features the extraordinary works of seven talented artists from across India, namely Archana Sinha (Bihar), Ashish Bose (New Delhi), Kaushlesh Kumar (Assam), Mareddu Ramu (Telangana), Poorvi Shukla (Madhya Pradesh), Sandeep Kindo (Chhattisgarh) and Sandesh Khule (Maharashtra). Each artist contributes a unique narrative, weaving a tapestry that reflects India’s rich and diverse creative spirit. A special exhibition catalogue, with a foreword by renowned art critic Johnny ML, adds depth to the event, offering international perspectives on the artists’ journeys and their contributions to contemporary art. The exhibition has drawn an impressive roster of critics and patrons, including luminaries like Vinod Bhardwaj, Prayag Shukla, Anjolie Ela Menon, and Jatin Das. Their engagement underscores the significance of “Ithaka” as a cornerstone of India’s cultural evolution.
