Solo art exhibition by yoga master, Dr Bharat Thakur.
The Stainless Gallery, New Delhi, presented, Before the Silence, a solo exhibition by Dr Bharat Thakur. The exhibition was on view from April 12, 2026 to April 20, 2026. It brought together a collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture design, drawn from four series developed over the past five years. These works are part of larger, evolving practice shaped by more than five decades of experience, observation and inner discipline.
Dr Bharat Thakur, known for founding Artistic Yoga, approaches art as an extension of his internal thought process rather than a separate creative pursuit. His early years in the Himalayan region, under the guidance of his mentor Shri Sukhdev Brahmachari ji, continue to influence the way his works take shape. The rhythms of nature, the passage of time and the experience of stillness remains central to his visual language.
Speaking about his process, Dr Thakur said, “Art is not something I set out to create. It emerges as a result of a certain state of clarity. When that happens, form follows on its own.” Reflecting on the exhibition, he notes, “Silence is not empty. It is a state where everything becomes more defined. These works come from just before that point.”
Yamini Telkar, in her essay for the exhibition, describes the works as “a continuous record of an interior life,” bringing together multiple layers of experience within a single painting.
At a time when contemporary life is increasingly shaped by speed and external stimuli, this body of work turns attention inward. Without aligning with a singular school or style, his work draws from his background in yoga, philosophy and embodied practice. Before The Silence marks his seventh solo exhibition, following his previous show A-Thousand-Cuts-And-An-Arch presented in Dubai in 2020. Bharat Thakur is a yoga master, founder of Artistic Yoga, and a self-taught visual artist working across painting and sculpture.
