Reflecting The Beauty Of Water And Earth

Gallery Massarrat hosted the show with a preview on January 18, 2025

Kicking off 2025 with a vibrant splash of colour, artist Sonaali Durga Chaudhri presented her solo exhibition, Pravah, which explored the theme of water and earth elements through a stunning series of paintings. Hosted by Gallery Massarrat by Bruno Art Group, the exhibition opened with a preview on January 18, 2025 attended by prominent artists, curators, and gallerists such as Sushma Behl, Kanchan Chander, Vinod Bhardwaj, Uday Jain, Vijender Sharma, Manisha Gawade, Gagan Vij, and Shridhar Aiyer, among others. The exhibition would be on until February 2, 2025.

Sonaali said, “Through the use of vibrant acrylics on canvas, wood, and MDF, I create abstract works with representational elements that capture nature’s majesty—from the serene flow of rivers like the Ganga to the grand, towering presence of mountains like the Himalayas. My artistic journey is about distilling the sublime beauty of the natural world into emotive, soul-stirring pieces. Water is the central force in my art. The flowing colours and textures reflect life’s challenges, while the calm, yet strong currents symbolize resilience. River rocks, shaped by water over time, embody the beauty that emerges from struggle.” She added, “Each piece speaks of water as both a source of strength and a metaphor for overcoming obstacles. It shows how it shapes and transforms, leaving behind something powerful and beautiful—just like my own journey as a woman navigating the world. Inspired by nature’s ever-changing landscapes and eternal rhythms, I aim to evoke a sense of tranquillity and bliss in those who experience my work. This exhibition reflects my explorations in the fragile ecosystems of the Himalayas and the upper Gangetic belt. The destruction caused by climate change is a wake-up call for humanity—are we listening?”

Nidhi Gupta, co-founder of Gallery Massarrat by Bruno Art Group, said. “The paintings of the Himalayas and mountain rivers evoke a sense of calm and encourage introspection. There’s a serenity in Sonaali’s art that can only truly be understood through experience.”

Art critic Vinod Bhardwaj sums it up beautifully: “Over the past two years, Sonaali has discovered the magical relationship between stones and water through her canvases. Using acrylics, she masterfully captures the textures of her medium and creates a range of enchanting permutations of stones and water.”
