Pancharothi, a progressive artist group, founded by Tanmay Haldar, Anirban Karmakar and Kanchan Jana held its annual art exhibition in Kolkata

Pancharothi, a well-known progressive non-commercial artist group based in Kolkata, created by three founder members Tanmay Haldar, Anirban Karmakar and Kanchan Jana, is an international artist group with associate members Arindam Rej and Sudipta Swarnakar from Bangladesh. The group, focused to promote contemporary art through online and offline exhibitions of paintings and sculptures, creative workshops and seminars on art, is presenting its annual art exhibition at north gallery of Academy of Fine arts, 2, Cathedral Road, Kolkata. The annual art show by Pancharothi was on view till May 18, 2023.

The show, inaugurated on May 12, 2023 in presence of eminent artists like Dr Subimalendu Bikas Sinha, Chandra Bhattacharjee and other guests is exhibiting the works of 15 artists. The participating artists are Arindam Dey, Atmadeep Bhattacharyya, Biswarup Pal, Chanchal Singha Roy, Kanchan Jana, Mahesh Haldar, Milon Ch. Biswas (Bangladesh), Pabitra Barman, Priyanka Roy, Rajendra Ankam, Saurav Chatterjee, Sourav Bhattacharjee, Sruti Roy, Subhendu Biswas and Tanmay Haldar.

Arindam Dey has done BFA from Bengal Fine Arts College and MFA from Kalyani University, is an assistant professor in JRS ET, College of Education, Nadia. Another artist Biswarup Pal, works in both mediums painting and sculpture. He has done his BVA from Rabindra Bharati University and is now working in his own style. He is actively involved in many art activities in Kolkata and Hyderabad. His art reflects contemporary time in life and society in his semi-figurative style. His works are collected by people from India and abroad. Chanchal Singha Roy a national awardee teacher and renowned environmentalist, who nurtured his creative spirit during pandemic years.

lives in the Andaman Islands. As a sensitive observer he draws and paints the changing natural world around

him. His artworks deal with the artist’s response to the issues related to Anthropocene epoch, recalling his childhood days when symbiotic relationships were better. His latest solo show ‘Nirbah- My quarantine days’ was held in Port Blair, Andaman Islands, at Kala Kendra Art Gallery in collaboration with the Department of Art and culture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

Pancharothi founder member Kanchan Jana believes every artist has their own point of view on life. Inspired by life experience he works on canvas, paper and other mediums to express himself. For him all positive and negative events of life influence his works like a mirror of what goes around in the society he lives. Breaking his limit in art he plays with lines, forms, colours and textures to create his own realization about life, which is his unique approach towards art practice.

Milon Ch. Biswas is from Khulna, Bangladesh. He has done BFA from Rajshahi University and MFA from Dhaka University and is presently working as a fashion designer. A well awarded artist, he participated in Fashion Design exhibition at Tokyo Japan in 1997, Kalamkari product exhibition, Dhaka in 2007, Bridal product exhibition, Netaji indoor stadium, Kolkata in 2008, besides being an active member of Pancharothi group. Priyanka Roy has been working on several folk-art forms of India for nearly two years. She is passionately involved in spreading art learning among children through storytelling. Born and brought up in Kolkata, currently settled in Bangalore, Priyanka practices her art and participates in many global art events in India.

Rajendra Ankam from Solapur Maharashtra, born in 1962, is passionate about art, he is a traditional handloom artist who has participated in many workshops and exhibitions in India. Another artist Saurav Chattrjee is a Graduate from Jadavpur University in computer science and engineering He is an artist by passion and a techie by profession His art practice is a blend of technology and creativity. His passion for art and knowledge of modern technology like AI, make a unique combination. Born in the 80s, while studying at Patha Bhavan he was introduced to sketching and lino-printing art. Later, while visiting museums, his creative mind was enriched by master artists from India and other countries. He experiments with his new medium to present his ideas.

Sourabh Bhattacharjee is a young aspiring artist working with Dr Subimalendu Bikash Sinha. He feels any external flow of the situation of life affects us and inspires an artist to create art reflecting his understanding of life. He feels he is impressed with the light and shadow of life that brings a new dimension to his work. His artwork received the Birendra Memorial award and Picasso Bronze award in 2021. His work is noticed at national level as he got a golden award from Kala Ratnam Art foundation, Bareilly, UP. He is practicing both visual art and performing art in a perfect balance.

Sruti Roy, who lives in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal, studied MSc. BEd from University of Calcutta and then responded to her call for creative interest and did a certificate course on Mithila painting from National Institute Mithila Paintings, Darbhanga, Bihar. She works on Indian style inspired by traditional Mithila art and folk style. Subhendu Biswas who works as a senior artist in Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata took part in art workshops and exhibitions in India and USA. His paintings are focused on spirituality and Indian heritage. Biswas works deal with life struggles and emotional impacts of experiences. He likes to express his thoughts and feelings in his art highlighting his own style and perception.
