Antaryatra: Amalgamation Of Art And Philosophy

Sanskar Bharati seminar explores inner journey and artistic expression.

The monthly art seminar, organised on the last Sunday of every month at Sanskar Bharti’s central office, Kala Sankul, in New Delhi, focused on art and meditation. The event witnessed a profound dialogue between art, philosophy and introspection. The keynote speaker for this inspiring seminar was Vaishali Gahlayan, assistant professor of philosophy at Miranda House, Delhi University. Vaishali Gahlayan is doing extensive research on Indian philosophy. She said, “Indian art is not just visual creativity but a search for the soul and the divine. It is an inner journey that transforms the artist into a seeker. Through imagination, meditation and sadhana, the artists come to know themselves and then shares these experiences with society.”

The programme began with a beautiful Kajari performance, resonating with the monsoon drizzle, by Sneha Mukherjee and her group. This folk music connected the festive spirit of Hariyali Teej.

Following this, a Kathak dance performance by Neelakshi Khandkar Saxena brought alive the grace of Indian classical dance through a vivid expression of rhythm, and emotion.

The seminar was attended by many eminent scholars, artists, researchers, and Sanskar Bharti officials associated with the fields of art, culture, and education in Delhi. These monthly seminars have transformed from cultural events to emerge as vibrant forums where Indian art comes up not merely as performance but as sadhana.

It is noteworthy that Sanskar Bharti – Kala Sankul, known as a prominent art center in Delhi is identified as a prestigious cultural hub for art lovers in the capital. The ground floor hosts stage performances, while the art gallery on the first floor offers a platform for showcasing art forms rooted in the Indian tradition.
